The event, spread across two waves, saw clients earn cashback on purchases made at Albert and Globus chains, totaling over 260 million Czech crowns. Founded by Ondřej Knot and Ivan Dovica in 2013, Dateio has made waves in the finance world and ranks among the fastest growing companies according to the Financial Times.”

People who pay with a Česká spořitelna card can save up to 20 percent on purchases in the Albert grocery store chain and in the Rohlík and Košík online stores until the end of December. Czech company Dateio is behind the loyalty programs of Česká spořitelna (Moneyback), Air Bank (Odměny) and UniCredit (U-šetrete).

Czechs are switching from loyalty cards to simpler ways of obtaining discounts and benefits from retailers. Instead of stacks of cards, they just need to pull out their payment card. These simple rewards are growing in popularity. The start-up Dateio, which works with Česká spořitelna, Air Bank and Unicredit Bank, also confirms that the interest in cashback is growing among Czechs.

“In the Czech Republic, we have several FinTech companies that have a great potential to establish themselves on the global market. Some may become part of a digital financial platform that offers better services than a traditional bank, ”says Maria Staszkiewicz, CEO of the Czech Fintech Association. “As a matter of fact, it’s already happening,” she adds. She’s talking about companies like Resistant AI, Twisto, BudgetBakers or Dateio.

During the pandemic in the Czech Republic, there was a significant increase in contactless payments, which opened up space for card-linked marketing. Thanks to this marketing tool based on the analysis of payment data, the customer receives a personalized offer from the merchant via their mobile banking application. The tool was first launched on the Czech market by Dateio, the only established company in Europe that offers such a platform.

Mobile apps, no PINs or ATMs and increasingly more efficient AI, which today partially replaces bank employees. In what direction is modern banking heading? Ondřej Knot, the co-founder and CEO of Dateio, the largest card-linked marketing platform in CEE, shares his predictions on this topic with Polska Times.

Our partner is one of the largest network of petrol stations in Slovakia. The aim of the cooperation was to focus on clients who spend less than 50% of the total monthly spending on petrol with the partner. Among them, we managed to increase the average Share of Wallet from 18% to 31%. For those who took advantage of the offer, their spending increased by 238%.

Every purchase says something about the owner of the payment card. The process of transforming these information into a comprehensive client profile (anonymised in all aspects) has proved to be an interesting business plan in the region. Dateio has tripled the income from campaigns in the last year and has the ambition to attack the 100 million CZK milestone this year.

The partner´s shops are mostly placed close to office buildings and the peak time is around 12 – 2 p. m. Using Dateio platform the partner was able to increase sales during off-peak hours and also motivate consumers to spend more, come more often. The campaign had also acquisition outcome, 20% of customers were new.

The Czech café chain faced strong competition from foreign companies. Three months of cooperation with Dateio helped them reach new clients and turn them into a loyal segment, while more than tripling the revenue from customers of the campaign.

The network of shops with specialized sports equipment has long struggled with inefficient clients reach. With Dateio, the partner managed to also reach clients who purchase from competitors, and it was easier to motivate them to shift their spending.

The petrol business vertical player increased its market share among all Moneyback customers by 5 percentage points in just 6 months thanks to the use of card linked marketing. Based on the CLM campaign, sales increased in the range of 20-25% and the return on investment measured at the margin level exceeded 150%.​

The Dateio card-linked marketing platform helped the chain of bookstores to secure a leading growing position made possible by customer segmentation.

He says he wanted to pick the best university in the field, and that’s why he ended up studying programming at Matfyz. After college, Jakub worked in several companies, and only a few years ago settled as a Backend Code Master in Dateio, the Prague Startup.

Using the Dateio card-linked marketing platform, the nationwide food retailer increased its market share by almost 3 percentage points.

Erste Group joins forces with Prague-based start-up Dateio to work on the integration of a new discount system into its pan-European banking platform George.
